Teaching procedure Warming up Daily talk A song Pre-preparation Teach what rules and signs are. Make sure that students can understand these two words. A brainstorm: where can we see the rules and signs. Pay attention to the prepositions that students use While-task procedure Play the cassette of Look and read. Students read after that. Remind them of the prepositions in the sentences. Give students some time to read the rules in Read, think and match. Make sure that students can understand all the sentences. Explain them for the less able students. Then ask them to match the rules and the places. Allow them to have a discussion. Show students some phrases and ask students to use them for writing rules in different places like this: We must keep quiet when we are in the library. Explain Must and mustn’t to students: We mustn’t do= don’t do ( you are not allowed to do) Make a new dialogue about the rules by using can ( may, be allowed to do) Can I bring my bag here? Yes, you can. Can I eat here? No, you can’t. Look at that sign. You mustn’t eat here. Remind students of the modal verbs and prepositions in the sentences. Post-task activity Show students a short passage and give them some time to read it. Then ask them try to fill in the blanks with must/ mustn’t and can to complete it. Give students some time to discuss what signs they can find in our school. Draw them on a piece of paper. Assignment Oral: find rules in the school and tell what they mean. Written: workbook page 42, 46 Period 2 Teaching objectives Knowledge objectives: 1.
