Teaching contents: Listening and speaking: Visiting the SPCA (p.10) Teaching Procedures: I. Pre-instruction: Look, think and say 1) Give students some pictures, and ask them what they are. Review some animal names: chicken, dog, mouse, pig, rabbit, tiger, monkey (chimpanzee) , sheep, snake, fox, horse, ox. 2) What other animals do you know? What animals do you like best? Ⅱ. Performance 1. Look and learn To learn some new words: the SPCA, an SPCA officer, puppy, lovely, thirsty. Q: Do you know some animals are in danger? We need the SPCA. Elicit the meaning of the SPCA: the Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals. 2. Listen and circle Peter is doing a quiz about the Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals. Listen and circle the correct answers. Give students some time to listen to the dialogue and answer some questions after it. Q1: When did the SPCA first start? 1903. Q2: How many officers are there at the SPCA? 16. Q3: How many animals doest the SPCA save every year? 16,000. Q4: Can you buy pet food from the SPCA? Yes. Q5: If you go away for a short holiday, can the SPCA look after your pet for you? Yes. 3. Read and act Mr. Hu and the children are visiting the SPCA. 1) Listen to the dialogue and try to repeat it. 2) Ask students to listen to the dialogue again, and ask students to repeat it one by one. 3) Ask students to read the dialogue after the recording. 4) Give students some time to practice reading the dialogue. 5) Ask them to have a role-play. Ⅲ. Promotion Ask and answer Ask students to close the books and ask some to answer the questions. Q1: Where are Mr. HU and his children? They are at the SPCA. Q2: Who is the man on the left? Q8: Which puppy does Jill prefer? She prefers the black one. Q9: Which puppy does Peter prefer? He prefers the yellow and brown one. Q10: Which puppy does Joe prefer? He prefers the white one. Ⅳ. Homework copy the phrases on page 10 twice and recite them, prepare for the dictation next day. recite Listen and act preview the next page.
