(课件网) Unit 1 Visiting Canada Additional information Canada is the second largest country in the world. It is larger than the USA and has a lot of population. Canada is considered as a good friend of the USA and it reaches nearly a quarter of the way around the earth. There are two official languages in Canada. They are French and English. The first travelers arrived in Canada in 1497. They were from England. Today, one province of Canada is French-speaking. The TV and radio programs they air are also French. There are five great lakes in the south of Canada, and there are many other small lakes, especially in the north. The electricity in Canada is produced by water. The country also has a lot of oil , coal and natural gas. These are all exploited for energy. Much of Canada is covered by forests, and wood in Canada is very good. It is cut and sold all over the world. Canada is also the world's biggest producer of a kind of special paper which is used for newspapers. Fishing is also very important for Canadians. Fish from the east and west coasts is sold to many other countries. Additional information: New Zealand New Zealand is a country in the south-western Pacific Ocean consisting of two large islands (the North Island and the South Island) and a lot of smaller islands In Māori, New Zealand has been well known as Aotearoa, which is usually translated into English as The Land of the Long White Cloud. The Realm of New Zealand also includes the Cook Islands and Niue, which are self-governing, but in free association; Tokelau; and the Ross Dependency (New Zealand's territorial claim in Antarctica). Auckland is a city full of energy. It is a really charming sport, and also a good place to visit on vacations. You will leave a deep impression here. Elizabeth II, as the Queen of New Zealand, is the head of the state and is represented, in her absence, by a non-partisan Governor-General; the Queen 'reigns but does not rule', so she has no real political influence. All in all, New Zealand is a beautiful country. Can you tell me something about other countries Thank you!
