And it has a negative influence on the planet. This comes with a level of responsibility as a designer. In 50 years, we will hopefully 3D print what are now rare, wanted and beautiful natural materials like minerals and rosewood. This technology would be readily available, following the movement of large companies like Tesla making their intellectual property (知识产权) public to allow others to develop them for the benefit of mankind as a whole. This would allow for the creation of new natural materials without any harm to the environment. Something like this would present designers with lots of new choices, and would change the way we think about our surroundings. And while we're at it, these new natural materials could break down whenever you want. Now, wouldn't that be something Ben van Berkel While present health related concerns focus primarily on the body and physical fitness. I think there is a growing need for architecture to actively contribute to human happiness on physical and social levels. I imagine that, in the future, there will be a need for a system that supplies us with continuous information about health related conditions in the built environment. It will measure and inform us about such things as air pollution, noise, daylight, fresh air and temperature levels to make sure that we're safe and comfortable in buildings. It will also warn of dangers and, in so doing, let us realize how our immediate environment is affecting us.
