Hours & Tickets The museum is open from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. daily (except on Thanksgiving, Christmas and New Year's Day). Tickets are sold until 4:30 p.m. $12 adults; $6 students; children aged 5 and under are free. Parking A small number of metered parking spaces are available on the streets of Old Sacramento. However, these spaces are not for guests visiting longer than 90 minutes. All day parking is available in large public garages at both ends of Old Sacramento. Food Service The Silver Palace Restaurant in the Central Pacific Railroad Passenger Station serves good food at the right prices. It is just one block southwest of the main entrance to the museum. Saber Hosseini teaches children in the city of Bamiyan, Afghanistan and he has changed his bicycle into a mobile library. “I came up with the idea for this project six months ago. I talked about it to friends in literary circles who donated money. I started alone with 200 storybooks for kids, and started riding to remote (偏僻的) villages throughout Bamiyan. Soon, many volunteers joined me and we have collected about 6,000 books.” Saber chose to use bicycles for his mobile library project mainly because volunteers can't afford cars and most of the villages in his province can only be reached by bike. Saber loads his cycle with books every weekend and rides to remote villages, most of which don't even have schools. “Many of those children are old enough for the third or fourth grade,” he said. “But in fact, they have not learned to read or write.” He keeps track of all the books he has left behind so that he can bring new ones for the kids the next time around.
