【Module 2 My family】 【Unit 2 These are my parents】 Warm-up Show pictures of families and ask students to describe the family members in English. For example, "Who is this ", "Is this her brother ". Presentation Present the vocabulary for family members: father, mother, parents, brother, sister, grandparents, grandfather, grandmother. Use flashcards, pictures or videos to help students learn the new words and their pronunciation. Practice Play a guessing game where students take turns describing a family member and their partner guesses who it is. For example, "He is my father. He likes to play basketball." The partner guesses "Is it your father ". Have students interview each other about their families using the questions "Do you have any brothers or sisters ", "Who is your favourite family member ", "What do your parents do ". Play a memory game where students take turns saying "These are my parents. Their names are..." and then adding a new family member each time, building on the previous students' answers. For example, "These are my parents. Their names are Mr. and Mrs. Chen. This is my brother. His name is Jack." The next student says, "These are my parents. Their names are Mr. and Mrs. Chen. This is my brother Jack. This is my sister Lily." Production Have students create a family tree poster or diagram, labeling each family member with their English name. Ask students to write a short paragraph about their family, including information about each family member and what they like to do together. Consolidation Play a game of Bingo using family member vocabulary. Students fill in a 3x3 grid with family members and the teacher calls out the names randomly. The first student to get a line of three correct answers calls out "Bingo!". Have students present their family paragraphs or posters to the class, practicing their speaking and presentation skills.
