Longman Welcome to English Gold 4B – Chapters 3 and 4 A. Class game (Telling the time) Aim: To revise telling the time and the vocabulary about things to do in Beijing and Shanghai. Description of the game: Pupils look at the word cards and the ‘clock’ cards and make sentences. You will need: 1. A set of word cards (things to do in Beijing and Shanghai) 2. A set of ‘clock’ cards (digital time) 3. Two boxes (Box I and Box II) / bags for putting the word cards and the ‘clock’ cards 4. Some adhesive tape / Blu-Tack for sticking the cards on the board Steps: Cut out the word cards (things to do in Beijing and Shanghai) and put them into Box I. Cut out the ‘clock’ cards and put them into Box II. Divide the class into two groups, A and B. Invite a pupil from each group (Pupil A and Pupil B) to come to the front of the classroom. Ask Pupil A to draw a word card (things to do in Beijing and Shanghai) from Box I and ask Pupil B to draw a ‘clock’ card (digital time) from Box II. Stick both cards on the board. Pupil A makes a sentence about the information on the cards, e.g. We’ll eat Peking duck at nine thirty. Then Pupil B says the sentence again using ‘past’ / ‘to’, i.e. We’ll eat Peking duck at half past nine. The group gets one point if the pupil says the sentence correctly. Continue inviting pupils from both groups to the front until each pupil has come out at least once. The group with the most points at the end of the game wins. You can add more digital times on the blank ‘clock’ cards and copy more word cards if necessary.
