Longman Welcome to English Gold 4B – Chapters 5 and 6 A. Class game (Where does sushi come from ) Aim: To reinforce the correct use of the structures ‘Where do / does … come from ’ and ‘They / It come(s) from …’ Description of the game: Pupils ask and answer questions about the origin of some food items and put the word cards of food under the corresponding country names. You will need: 1. A set of word cards (food)* 2. A set of ‘country’ cards (names of countries) 3. A box / bag for putting the word cards (food) 4. Some adhesive tape / Blu-Tack for sticking the cards on the board Steps: 1. Cut out the word cards (food) and put them in the box / bag. Cut out the country cards. 2. Revise the vocabulary and structures taught in LWTE Gold 4B Chapters 5 and 6 with pupils before the game. 3. Divide the board into five sections. Stick one country card in each section. 4. Divide the class into two groups, A and B. 5. Invite a pupil from each group (Pupil A and Pupil B) to come to the front of the classroom. 6. Ask Pupil A to draw a word card (food) from the box / bag. The pupil looks at the card and asks Pupil B a question about the origin of that food, e.g. Where does sushi come from If the pupil forms a correct question, his / her group wins one point. 7. Then Pupil B should answer Pupil A’s question, e.g. It comes from Japan. and stick the word card in the correct section on the board. For example, if the food on the word card is ‘sushi’, the pupil should stick it under the country ‘Japan’. If the pupil answers correctly and sticks the word card in the correct place, his / her group wins one point. If the pupil doesn’t answer correctly or stick the word card under the correct country, he / she puts the word card (food) back into the box / bag. 8. Continue inviting pupils from both groups to the front until each pupil has come out at least once. Pupils take turns to ask and answer the questions. 9. The group with the most points at the end of the game wins. 10. You can add more names of countries and pictures of food on the blank cards if necessary.
