They enjoyed themselves very much in the morning, but in the afternoon, several things happened. Jeff cut himself when he opened a bottle of fruit. When most of them were taking a rest by the river, a group of boys went into the village. They wanted to find out who was the bravest. They went about the village but found nothing interesting. When they got to the other side of the village, they saw there was a big orchard. There were a lot of apples in the trees. “We’ll see who can pick some apples from those trees,” said John. Hans and Jack offered to go and the other boys waited near a very narrow bridge. When Hans and Jack were climbing the tall fence, they got such a fright that they both fell off. They saw two dogs running out barking.* Suddenly, the dogs ran at them. The boys were so frightened that they ran onto the narrow bridge together. Just then, its master hurried out and stopped his dogs. When they got back, Hans told mum what had happened. “At least,” mum said with a laugh. “We’ve found out who runs the fastest.” TEXT ORAL COMMUNICATION WORD SKILLS SPECIAL DIFFICULTIES STRUCTURE & GRAMMAR WARM-UP excursion / k sk n/ n.
