Nelson Mandela Warming-up Hero of South Africa Nelson Mandela was born in a small village in the Transkei region of South Africa. He was born on 18th July, 1918. He was President of South Africa from 1994 to 1999. Nelson Mandela was a great fighter. In his early days, he was a black lawyer(律师), offering help to poor black people on their legal(法律的) problems. Later, he became a leader of ANC(非洲人国民大会) and the first black President of South Africa. All his life, Mandela fought for rights (权利) of black people in his country, and because of that, he was in prison for thirty years.
