E.g.Made of tyres and glass and plastic bottles, an elementary school in Jaureguiberry, east of Montevideo, claims to be the first public school in Latin America that is totally green. In Jaureguiberry, about 2,000 tyres, 3,000 glass bottles, 1,500 plastic bottles and 12,000 cans were put together with wood, glass and cement to fashion the new school. Step 3 Learning the Words That May Be Used in the Video Look at the photos on Page 36. In groups, use the following words and phrases to describe what is going on in the photos. E.g.solar panels/trash/school/ reuse/build/tin cans/ plants/volunteers/grow food/collect/old car/tyres/learn/children/teach Step 4 Watching the Video and Thinking What Is Happening in the Pictures Students watch the video and try to answer the question. E.g.These are tin cans that would usually be trash, but have been collected, perhaps to reuse them for something. Step 5 Answering the Questions Where is Uruguay Why is the school “autonomous” What nickname does the US architect Michael Reynolds call himself Who else other than the students learn from the workshops How does one student educate his mother about waste Step 6 Reviewing What are they talking about in the interviews Step 7 Consolidation Watch the video again and discuss the following ques Which part impressed you most Do you want to visit this school What can you learn from this school Do you think we can take similar measures in our school or our community Step 8 Homework Are there any places like this Green School in China In what way are they similiar How are they different Search for information through the Internet and complete a composition.
