Students set up booths selling handmade crafts and baked goods to raise funds for a local orphanage. I helped at a face-painting booth and saw the joy on children’s faces as their designs came to life. The sense of unity and purpose among everyone involved was inspiring. It taught me the value of giving back and working together for a meaningful cause, making it a truly valuable experience in my high school journey. 第二节(满分25分) “Come with me!” Josh called out. The next instant, he raced upstairs with the weak scarecrow made by Mom with lightning speed. Though still feeling a bit confused, I followed him into the attic without hesitation, where we began a thorough search for the potentially useful items for making a stronger scarecrow. We found the broken umbrellas and used them as the backbone of the scarecrow. After that, we sorted out some old sheets and tied them on. The scarecrow now looked even scarier. With all work done, we dragged our creation to the cornfield and planted it firmly in the mud, our hearts full of hope. In the days that followed, the scarecrow stood tall. Serving as a silent guardian, it successfully scared the birds away. Seeing this, Mom couldn’t help giving us a big thumb, thinking highly of our wonderful works. Under its watchful eyes, our cornfield flourished this year. As we enjoyed a good harvest, her favorite saying, “waste not, want not”, echoed in our hearts. Mom’s useless things from the attic had come together to create something extraordinary. The “Affair of the Scarecrow” has taught us the value of creatively transforming seemingly useless items into treasure, making us aware that frugality is a good quality after all. A POETRY CHALLENGE Write a poem about how courage, determination, and strength have helped you face challenges in your life.
