
Lesson plan Unit 5 Why do you like pandas Section B (2a-2c) Analysis of the teaching content This lesson is from Unit 5 of PEP English Go for it, the second semester of Grade 7. This lesson is the reading part of this unit. The topic of this unit is Animals in a zoo. The reading material of this lesson is a website article. The title of the article is Let’s save the elephants. It introduces the elephants in Thailand and the culture behind it. Hence, it serves as practice and development of reading skills, such as classifying and grouping information and other reading strategies, like using key words to search for target information. Analysis of the students The students of Grade 7 are familiar with and interested in the topic. When coming to the reading part of this unit, the students will have already mastered the vocabulary required to understand the text. So it won’t be a big challenge for them to learn this lesson. And most of the students have the sympathy for the endangered animals, but they may still lack of some reasoning abilities in analyzing the problem. Teaching objectives Figure out the problems elephants face and the solutions. Use the reading strategies: skimming and scanning to find the target information. Raise the awareness to love and protect wild animals. Reflect on what people from all walks of life can do to help protect wild animals.
