Students write a report about the population problems of her/his hometown. 教学难点: 1.Students write a report about the population problems of her/his hometown. 教学过程 Step 1 Lead in Mary is going to write a report about population problems. Brainstorm what she can write about in her report. Intention: the situation is created in this activity. Through brainstorming, students generally perceive the structure and contents of a report about population problems. And the students’ interest is also stimulated. Step 2 About the population A1:Listen and match. Task1: First take a look at the countries and large numbers. Try to guess the population of each country as to predict what they will hear. Task2:Listen and match the countries with the populations so as to check their prediction. Task3:Check the answers by using the sentence structure “...has a population of...”. Intention: In this activity, students use their background knowledge to predict the populations of different countries, so as to develop their learning skill of prediction and arouse their interest in the topic since they are actively involved. In the following tasks, students learn to read large numbers while checking the answers. A2:Read the number. Task1: Take the population of China as an example to summarize how to read large numbers. Intention:Students summarize how to read large numbers, so as to prepare for the activities that follow. A3:Read the chart and answer. Task1:Read and answer: What is the chart comparing Task2: Learn how to read a chart. Task3: Read the chart and answer the questions. Task4: Predict what kind of problems population growth may bring to us. Intention: population is not only about numbers. In this activity, students learn to read chart about population changes and population difference s of different cities, so as to further develop their ability to analyze problems. Step 3 About the problems A1:Complete the passage. Task1:Read and complete the passage about population problems. Task2: Check the answers and tell the sentences structures expressing problems. Intention: Students get to know some population problems and sentence structures to talk about problems,so as to prepare for the writing of the report. A2:Complete the passage (using articles).
