Show some pictures of different kinds of books and ask students: How many books have you read this year Do you read e books Do you like them 2. Lead students to have a brief discussion and share their experiences and opinions. Step 2: Pre-reading (5 minutes) 1. Present some key words and phrases from the text: ancient, knowledge, by hand, printing press, common, electronic, habit. Explain their meanings and ask students to guess the topic of the text based on these words. 2. Predict what the text might talk about. Step 3: While-reading (20 minutes) 1. Fast Reading Ask students to read the text quickly and answer the question: What is the main idea of the text Check the answers and guide students to summarize the main idea. 2. Careful Reading Ask students to read the text carefully again and answer the following questions: How did people write books in ancient times What made it possible to print books quickly What kind of books quickly changed people's reading habits Have students discuss the answers in pairs and then share with the class.
