Teaching Design for Warming up & Writing Senior Book 2 Unit 3 Computers The analysis of learning material: This unit is about computers. It is a topic which students are quite familiar with and they are certainly willing to learn and talk about it. Since the computer is playing an important computer in human society today, it is necessary for students to have a basic understanding about the computer’s role in daily life. At first, they are going to achieve this goal by watching a video clip and having a discussion in class. Then they will be asked to write a composition on this topic; that is to say, advantages and disadvantages of the computer as well as how should people do with a computer. The whole class is close to students’ real life, so it won’t be difficult or boring for them to participate and write. The analysis of students: Surely students are very likely to show interest in this class, but in order to have fun and learn something today, they are going to need proper guidance and work with others all the time. Besides, their vocabulary is quite small. So how to help them to accumulate some words and expressions is as important as achieving today’s learning objectives. Based on the above, learning objectives are set as follows: Learning objectives: After this class, students will be able to achieve objectives as follows: 1. Knowledge objectives. Know something about the present role which the computer is playing in people’s life. Accumulate some words and expressions about advantages and disadvantages of the computer in speaking and writing. 2. Ability objectives. Develop the ability of speaking and writing to analyze the advantages and disadvantages of the computer by individual and group work. 3. Emotional objectives. Set up a right attitude towards how to use the computer. Raise students’ interest and build up their confidence in speaking and writing. Learn to cooperate with others. Key and difficult points: 1. To speak out advantages and disadvantages of the computer. 2. To write a composition about advantages and disadvantages of the computer. 3. To set up a right attitude towards how to use the computer. Idea and strategy: According to the characteristics of the Senior One students and requirements of the syllabus, the class has been designed with some activities to enable students to listen, speak, read and write as often as possible. Speaking and writing strategies are adopted to enable them to keep pace with the content of the class and speak out or write down their opinions freely in English.
