II. Key competence focus 1. Follow the author to feel the horror in Pearl Harbor. 2. Recognize the importance of preserving peace. III. Predicted areas of difficulty 1. Analyse the function of the title. 2. Critical thinking about why we should never forget the attack on Pearl Harbor. 3. write a lecture about the attack on Pearl Harbor. IV. Teaching procedures Step 1 Brainstorming T asks Ss to look at the title and answer the following questions. ◆ What do you know about the attack on Pearl Harbor ◆ How do you think about the title Why does it use ‘hell comes to’ 【设计意图:让学生阅读标题导入今天的主题———珍珠港遭袭事件,激发学生旧知———对于历史书中关于珍珠港事件的描述,并要求其尽可能用英语描述出来;再带领学生思考为什么要说“hell comes to Pearl Harbor”呢?重点关注“hell”一词。】 Step 2 Skimming T asks Ss to read the article and figure out its main idea and structure with the help of the tip “Identifying the chronological order”. ◆What does the article mainly talk about ◆Try to identify the structure.
