One of the most significant events was the sending of the first email. In 1971, Ray Tomlinson, a computer engineer, made history. He developed a way to send messages between different computers on ARPANET. The first email was a simple test, likely just some random letters. But this small step opened the door to a new era of communication. The original name of the Internet was ARPANET, which stands for Advanced Research Projects Agency Network. It was created by the United States Department of Defense in the 1960s. ARPANET's main goal was to connect computers at different research institutions so they could share information. Scientists and researchers used it to exchange data and collaborate on projects. As time passed, ARPANET evolved, and new technologies were added. Eventually, it transformed into what we now know as the Internet, a global network connecting billions of people around the world.
