Earth Hour 2024 was happening at the weekend. The annual (一年一度的) one-hour event began in the UK at 8:30 p.m. on 23rd March, 2024. Earth Hour happens each year in order to raise awareness of climate change and loss of nature. The event was founded in 2007 by the WWF (世界自然基金会). It began in Sydney, Australia. It was used as a symbol of an energy-saving event. Over two million people and businesses turned off their lights for an hour. Since then, it has spread all over the world and now millions of people in over 190 countries join in. If people want to take part in it, the main thing they can do is to turn off their lights for an hour on Saturday night. However, there are other ways to join in too. The WWF is encouraging people to “Give an Hour for Earth” by doing something positive for the planet. Their ideas include spending an hour in nature and making an outside space more friendly to nature. On their website, the WWF says, “It is more than just an hour in the dark.
