Do you sometimes find it not easy to understand some English speakers Why When do you find it not easy to understand some English speakers Step 2 Read, listen and feel 1. Have students read the four groups of words on page 25 aloud and clearly. 2. Have students listen to the four groups of words and answer the question. What’s the difference between students’ reading and recording 3. Have students listen to and imitate the recording again and summarize the four different ways of linking sounds together. Step 3 Learn and summarize We often link sounds together when we speak English. There are four different ways of linking sounds together. (1) We usually link a consonant sound with a vowel sound. (2) When the first word ends in –r or –re and the next word begins with a vowel sound, we join them together with a /r/ sound between them. (3) When two consonant sounds of two words meet, we sometimes do not need to pronounce the first consonant sound. (4) When the first word ends with a vowel sound and the next word begins with a vowel sound, we can join them as if there were a /j/ or /w/ sound between them. Step 4 Learn and think Why do we need to learn the linking sounds in English Step 5 Try and consolidate 1. Have students finish Part A on page 25, try to read the phrases first, then listen to the recording and check the answer. 2. Have students finish Part B on page 25, try to read the poem first, then listen to the recording and check the answer. Step 6 Share and improve Have students talk about their neighbourhoods fluently using the different ways of linking sounds together. Step 7 Homework Compulsory homework: 1. Introduce your neighbourhood to your classmates orally. 2. Preview Integration on P26-28.
