There is a legend about the Spring Festival. Nian, the monster, came out on the last night of every year to eat humans and animals. So people set off fireworks and firecrackers, hung red lanterns, and put Spring Festival couplets on the doors. This way, they could drive away Nian and bring good luck for the coming year.
