They are usually from the names of a village, a state, or an official position. For example, Qi (齐) comes from the state name Qi, and Ouyang (欧阳) is the name of a township. English names also have two parts: given names and family names. Different from Chinese names, the order is “given name(s) + family name”. For example, a family living with many trees and plants might take the name Green. If they had dark hair, they were called the Blacks or the Browns. And a person who had a good voice was named Singer. A given name, either in Chinese or in English, carries the hope of a family for a baby. For example, “Yong” in Chinese and “Andy” in English both mean “brave”; “Li” in Chinese and “Lily” in English “beautiful”. Read the passage and complete the table.
