What to do during an earthquake. If you are indoors, stay there. Quickly move to a safe location in the room such as under a strong desk, a strong table, or along an interior wall. The goal is to protect yourself from falling objects and be located near the structural strong points of the room. Avoid taking cover near windows, large mirrors, hanging objects, heavy furniture or fireplaces. If you are cooking, turn off the stove and take cover. If you are outdoors, move to an open area where falling objects are unlikely to strike you. Move away from buildings, power lines, and trees. If you are driving, slow down smoothly and stop on the side of the road. Avoid stopping on or under bridges and overpasses, or under power lines, trees, or large signs. What to do after an earthquake. Check for injuries, attend to injuries if needed, and help ensure the safety of people around you. Check for damage. If your building is badly damaged, you should leave it until it has been inspected (检查) by a safety professional. If you smell or hear a gas leak(泄漏), get everyone outside and open windows and doors. If you can do it safely, turn off the gas at the meter. Report the leak to the gas company and fire department. Do not use any electrical appliances (电器) because a tiny spark (火花) could light the gas. If the power is out, unplug (拔掉……的电源插头) major appliances to prevent possible damage when the power is turned back on. If you see sparks, frayed wires, or smell hot insulation, turn off electricity at the main fuse box or the circuit-breaker. If you have to step in water to turn off the electricity, you should call a professional to turn it off for you. 【主题词句背诵】 1.without any warning没有任何警告/预兆 2.protect oneself from…保护某人自己免受……伤害 3.turn off关闭 4.be (un)likely to do sth (不大)可能做某事 5.move away from远离 6.attend to处理,照料 7.Earthquakes occur without any warning and may be so violent (剧烈的) that you cannot run, so the main point is to try not to move and to immediately protect yourself as best as possible wherever you are. 地震在没有任何预兆的情况下发生,并且可能非常剧烈,以至于你无法奔跑。所以重点是不管你在哪儿,尽量不要移动,并立即尽可能地保护好你自己。 8.If your building is badly damaged, you should leave it until it has been inspected (检查) by a safety professional. 如果你的房子严重受损,你应该在安全员检查之前离开它。 Period One Listening and Speaking 1.slide vi. & vt.
