Why do they dance on stilts People aren't quite sure how the tradition started. Some say that the place was very damp(潮湿的)and people used the stilts to walk through the tall grasslands in the past. Others believe that the farmers used to dance to Saint Mary Magdalene, asking for a good harvest(丰收). Every year, eight men in yellow skirts, white shirts and rainbow waists(背心)spin(旋转)down a 58-meter slope(斜坡) on half-meter stilts, As they spin, their skirts spread like bells. “We look like human spinning tops,” said 27-year-old Oscar Moreno. To keep their legs safe, dancers tie cushions(衬垫)to the stilts -and if they fall, the crowd rushes to catch them. For Moreno, the hardest part is when someone brushes(触碰)against him while he is dancing. “You have to focus on one point so you don't feel sick.” he said. The dance, recognized as a cultural heritage(文化遗产)since 2018, takes place twice in July and again on the last Saturday of September. It begins in front of Saint Andrew's church. Dancers make quick, jumping steps to the beat of castanets(有板)before going down the slope, “Outsiders think we're a bit crazy, but in La Rioja, people are proud of how brave the dancers are,” Moreno said. Though the dance is not well-known outside of La Rioja, Moreno is hopeful about its future. “It's a tradition you want to keep alive” he said. 19.Why is Paragraph 2 written A.To tell when the festival is celebrated.
