中国寓言故事英语阅读语篇精选———用英语说中国故事 Helping Shoots Grow by Pulling Them Up (揠苗助长) During the Spring and Autumn Period, there was a man living in the State of Song. When sowing seeds in spring, he planted a large field of crops. Watered by spring rains, blown by gentle spring winds, and warmed by bright spring sunshine, by early summer, the crops had grown lush and green. However, this man from Song was very impatient. As soon as the shoots pushed new buds out of the soil, he ran to the field to check. Seeing the crops were only as tall as his little finger, he talked to himself: “Why are you growing so slowly When will you reach the height of my calf ” Ten days later, he went to the field again. This time, the crops were growing well — all the leaves had come out, turning from light green to dark green, and the stems had started to grow. Standing in front of the seedlings, he saw they had already reached his calf. But he was still in a hurry. “It’s been ten days, yet you’ve only grown this little. When will you reach my knee ” he complained. After barely waiting for five more days, the man from Song couldn’t sit still anymore. He ran to the field again. Wow! This time, the crops grew even better than before. The seedling stems had grown taller section by section, reaching his knees. There were more and more leaves, and small flower buds could even be seen faintly. With the soft wind, the leaves swayed, as if celebrating the joy of their growth. But the man was still not satisfied. He walked back and forth in the field with his hands behind his back, shaking his head. “At this growth rate, there’s no hope of harvesting the crops anytime soon!” he thought unconsciously. “Is there any way to make them grow faster ” He fell into deep thought. Looking at the seedlings swaying gently in the wind, he suddenly came up with an idea. He bent down, carefully pulled one seedling up a little, then looked at it. It stood firmly in the field and was “taller” than the other seedlings. Finally, he smiled with satisfaction. After that, he patiently and diligently pulled every seedling in his field one by one. In this way, all the seedlings were “raised” a lot taller. He was overjoyed. As the sun set, he returned home, tired all over. He said to his family excitedly, “I’m exhausted today, but it’s worth it — I finally helped our crops grow taller!” When his son heard this, he hurried to the field. To his disappointment, he found all the seedlings had withered. Moral Seedlings have their own specific growth rules. It’s useless to go against these rules and rush for quick results; sometimes it may even make things worse, just like the man from Song in the story. Therefore, to do a thing well, we not only need confidence and enthusiasm, but more importantly, we must use scientific methods, take steady steps, and not act recklessly or try to take shortcuts. 全文翻译 揠苗助长 春秋时期,宋国有一个农夫。春天播种时,他种了一大片庄 ... ...
