Quota Background Francis bacon(1561-1626) was an English statesman, scientist also an Philosopher. He is best known today as the father of the scientific method and modern science, owes a great deal to his theories and guiding philosophy. He wrote extensively throughout his wife life on all kinds of topics, especially science, law, religion, and philosophy.The quote at the beginning of the unit serves as the topic sentence of an essay called “Of Travel” which was published in one of his most popular books, Essays, Civil and Moral(1625). “Of Travel” first describes the kinds of things one can see and learn through travel and then talks about how best to take advantage of travel as a learning experience.
