Maybe it had just been the flies But the nagging feeling I'd had earlier just wouldn't go away. After dinner I asked Mum for a ham sausage from the fridge and went back up the field. He was pawing at the ground and didn't even seem to notice me approach. I noticed straight away that he looked quite sweaty, even in the cool evening breeze, and he completely ignored the sausage when I offered it to him. My heart sank-I knew right then that something was really wrong. Mum still says she's never heard me shout as loud as I did then(高潮).
