But in such weather, it was impossible to spot the tracks or any signs of an approaching train. Trembling with cold, I turned up the heat. The loud blowers did their work, sheltering me from the bitter cold and the sound outside. Seemingly, everything went smoothly as I inched forward. All at once, my headlights shone on a small animal in front of me, right at the farthest point they could reach.
