The purpose of the text is to describe a natural disaster, to tell readers what the earthquake looks like. More importantly, the text gets across the message that while disasters can be merciless, love will always prevail. The analysis of students Target students: freshmen in high school, who are in the accumulation and acquisition stage in terms of vocabulary and grammar knowledge. strengths After the first three units of study, students are familiar with the new senior high school textbook and have a certain understanding of it. They have also accumulated a certain amount of vocabulary and grammar knowledge. weaknesses They know little about how to express natural disasters in English and the lingustic features of literary journalism. Students have some knowledge of the topic of natural disasters. Most have never experienced one and therefore lack knowledge of the proper way to deal with natural disasters when they strike. They also don’t know much about the Tangshan earthquake. Through this unit, students can learn to protect themselves, cultivate their empathy and increase their awareness of valuing life.
