Centered on the theme of “Birthdays”, this unit conducts in-depth discussions around the core question “Why do we celebrate birthdays ” through various teaching formats, such as four daily dialogues, two posts, and a project-based learning task titled “Celebrate your birthdays together”. The unit aims to help students talk about people’s birthdays, express dates in English, learn English expressions for shopping, and explore how and why people celebrate birthdays. In the first conversation, Fu Xing sends birthday wishes to Helen. Helen then takes the opportunity to ask Fu Xing about her birthday and age, and invites her to her birthday party. In the second conversation, Teng Fei doesn’t know what birthday gift to give his father, so he asks Ella for advice. In the third conversation, Peter asks Meimei about Ms Gao’s birthday, as he wants to perform for her on her special day. Through the three conversations, students will be able to master English expressions related to birthdays and improve their listening and speaking skills. On this once-a-year special occasion, they will learn to express their wishes, ask about ages and dates, and master other daily communication skills. At the same time, by learning these birthday-related English expressions, students can develop a sense of caring for others, cultivate a positive emotional attitude, and learn to cherish the time spent with friends and family. In the process of preparing a birthday surprise for Ms. Gao, students need to unleash their creativity, come up with unique celebration ideas, and develop innovative thinking skills.
