Warm-up & Lead-in - Activity 1: Weather Talk Ask students: “What’s the weather like today How’s the temperature ” Invite 2–3 students to share, then introduce the weather report segment from the textbook. - Activity 2: Picture Prompt Show a photo of the Great Green Wall and ask: “What do you see Why do we plant trees ” to activate prior knowledge and lead into the topic. 2. Pre-listening & Vocabulary Building - Vocabulary Introduction Present core words with visuals: seedling, soil, dig, prevent, dust, temperature. Use simple definitions: “A seedling is a young tree.” - Pronunciation Practice Model and drill the words as a class, focusing on stress and intonation. - Pre-teach Sentence Structures Introduce sequence markers (First, Then, Finally) and benefit patterns (Trees help ... / Trees prevent ...), with quick examples. 3. While-listening Activities - Task 1: Listen & Tick (Ex. 2) Play the first conversation once. Ask students to tick the items mentioned (weather, school project, steps to plant trees, reasons for planting trees, a way to learn about nature). Check answers as a class and clarify any misunderstandings. - Task 2: Listen & Answer (Ex. 3) Play the conversation a second time. Have students answer questions A, B, C individually, then compare answers in pairs. Invite students to share their answers and explain with evidence from the audio. - Task 3: Listen & Fill (Ex. 4) Play the Great Green Wall introduction twice. Students fill in the blanks: It is made up of strips of trees planted by humans. About 3,600 square kilometres of grassland are being covered by the Gobi Desert every year. The Great Green Wall project started in 1978. By planting more trees, people are preventing the desert from expanding ... By the year 2050, the Great Green Wall will be about 2,800 miles long. 4. Post-listening & Production - Activity 1: Role-play the Conversation Divide students into groups of 4 (Ms Liu, Wang Mei, Li Ming, Song Hua/Li Lin).
