Section A 1a - Pronunciation Teaching Objectives Language competence: Ss will learn and understand words about time,weather and daily activities. Learning ability Improve SS listening and speaking skills by using the present continuous tense. Thinking quality Ss can compare and contrast the usage of present continuous and simple present tense. Cultural awareness Discuss how people in different cultures talk about the weather and daily routines. Teaching important and difficult points Master the key words and sentences. Correctly using the present continuous tense to describe actions happening right now. Teaching methods Task-based teaching method, Situational teaching method. Teaching Aids. Multimedia, blackboard, pictures of foods. Teaching Procedures. Step 1. Warming-up. Greet the ss and have a free talk. How was your weekend What did you do last weekend Show some pictures of people doing different activities and ask the ss to guess what they are doing. Justification: To make sure the activities connected with their real life. Step 2. Presentation. Present the new words and phrases: gardening, playing volleyball, reading a book. Show pictures of each activity and teach the words one by one. Present the sentence structure: "What are you doing right now " and "I'm...". Use actions and gestures to demonstrate the meaning of the sentence. Step 3. Practice. 1a: Write the activities in the box under the pictures. Show the pictures in 1a and ask the ss to match the activities with the pictures. 1b: Listen to the conversations and answer the questions. Play the recording for the first time. The ss just listen. 1c: Listen again. Match the questions with the answers. Have the ss check their answers in pairs. Step 4. Production. 1d. Role-play a conversation between a club leader and a student. Read the example dialogue with a s. Ask the ss to work in pairs and make their own dialogues. Group work: Make a survey. Divide the ss into groups of 4. Each s asks the other three ss, "What are you doing right now "and records. Step 5. Pronunciation Listen and repeat. Play the recording of the pronunciation part. Add one more word to each group. Have the ss think of one more word for each group and write it down. Justification: Give ss enough time to think about proper words. Step 6. Summary and Homework Summarize the key points of this lesson. Practice the conversations with your partner. Blackboard design. Unit5.
