Learning objectives By the end of the lesson, students will be able to: read the lecture transcript about genome editing carefully; know the main idea of each paragraph and understand how the passage is organized in the lecture; improve the students’ critical thinking ability by answering the given questions. II. Key competence focus Improve the students’ ability of reading comprehension; Train the students’ ability of critical thinking by reading and analyzing . III. Predicted area of difficulty Get the students to know how the lecture transcript is organized; Improve the students language and leaning ability . IV. Teaching procedures Step 1 warming up: stimulating the students reading interest T show four pictures or watch a short video to the class. T leads Ss to look at the pictures and asks the following three questions: What jobs are described in the pictures (A surgeon is performing an operation; A physician is trained in general medicine; A chemist prepares and sells medicine in a shop; A dentist specializes in the care of people’s teeth ) Would you like to be a medical professor Why or Why not Can you describe an experience with a medical professor What was it like What advances in medical science have you heard about? Get Ss to read some sentence about medicine and health to make them happy to the next step For example: The practice of medicine is an art not a trade; a calling, not a business, a calling in which your heart will be exercised equally with your head. An apple a day makes a doctor away.
