Chapter4 Computer technology (Reading) Periods 1-2 I Teaching content: Electric machines II. Teaching objectives: 1) Language objectives: Make the Ss learn about electric machines and corresponding new words. 2) Ability objectives: By the end of this lesson, the Ss will have known about different aspects of computers and their effects on our lives. 3) Moral objectives: Instruct the Ss to treasure the value of themselves and ask them to study well. III Teaching and learning strategies: Teaching strategies: I will be working on improving the Ss’ ability to solve practical problems by showing pictures, giving clear instructions, explanation and setting examples etc. Learning strategies: Adopt cooperative study on free talk, pair work, group work and role play. IV. Teaching aids: A multi-media computer, text, tape-recorder blackboard etc. V. Anticipated problems: Some Ss may have difficulty mastering the new words and expressions appeared in the text. VI. Assumptions: I am assuming that all the Ss will be involved in solving the problems and gain much knowledge when they practice their oral English. VII. Teaching procedures(教学过程设计) 教学环节 教师活动 学生活动 Step 1 Warming-up and lead-in Free talk: show them a picture in which there are many things and then cover them; ask them to write down what they have seen.Ask two students from each group to represent their answers. Praise the quickest group.List the new words on the blackboard, eg main unit, CD-ROM, etc. Free talk and competition between groups:Look at the picture and write down the things. Then show their results either orally or in written form. Step 2 Pre-reading Play the tape recorder and ask questions. Listen to the tape once and answer several pre-reading questions. Step 3Fast reading Offer five minutes for the Ss to read through the text and finish Part B1;B2 and then check answers. Read through the text as quickly as they can and find out the five different types of memory. Step 4Read for detail Let Ss read through the text and find out all the phrases. Then provide ten minutes for them to remember as many as possible. Check “Is a computer cleverer than I am ”C. What kind of jobs can a computer do Read through the text carefully and find out all the phrases and important sentences in the text. Find out the reasons C: remember the names Step 5 Paraphrase A. Let Ss read the text again and work in pairs to find out the important sentences in the text.B. Ask Ss to paraphrase the sentences by themselves and then check answer. 1.Read the text again and work in pairs to find out the important sentences in the text.2.
