To let students know the importance of learning the numbers. 2学情分析 大部分学生学习英语的热情比较高涨,愿意参与课堂活动中来,对话或是小组交流尤其积极主动,少部分学生不太热情,比较沉闷,但在老师的鼓励下还是能乐意参与的。 3重点难点 1. To learn the new words and expressions. 2. What do you know about …. T: What does the word “international” mean It means “used by or connected with several nations or countries” What is an international language French, English What is an international language in this article Numbers 2.Look and think T: Look at the title, subtitle, heading and pictures and tick the things you think the article may tell you. II. While-task procedure: 1. Ask students to read the Reading section themselves and give them 5 minutes or so and ask them to find some new words and phrases about the article. And solve them by themselves if necessary. If they can’t answer, teachers may help them. Important Words and expressions: 1. ancient --very early, many, many years ago 2. consist of--be made of 3. invent --make...for the first time 4. accurate--without mistakes 5. percentages--amounts that are part of a hundred 6. instructions--orders 7. international--used by more than one country or nation 8. a system--a group of things that work together 9. develop--grow bigger 10. calculate --use numbers to find the answers 11. represent--mean; stand for 12. electronic--using electrons for power 13. powerful--strong 14. amazing--very surprising 15. solve--find the answer to 16. program--give orders to a computer 2. Ask students to read the article again and find the meaning of four paragraphs. Ancient numbers: In ancient times, numbers were written in different ways, but counting was nearly always in tens. Zero: Everyone uses the member system 1 to 9 plus 0 (zero).The system was invented by the Indians. Zero makes it easier to write big numbers and to calculate. Calculating machines: Descriptions of three calculating machines: the ancient abacus, the modern electronic calculator and the computer. Brain against computer: An account of an actual competition between an Indian lady and a computer in which the lady won. Computers cannot do anything by themselves. They must be programmed by human beings. 3. Answer the following questions to know some detailed information about the article.
