    Unit 1 What’s the matter? Revision Before-class activities Step 1. Greetings and warming up. Play a touching game. (Purpose: Reviewing body parts and getting students ready for the next step.) Step 2. Leading-in. Task 1: Review important words by completing a passage with blanks. Task 2: Review grammar. Three ways to express feelings of being sick. (Purpose: Reviewing important words, phrases and grammatical structures in passage. Getting students ready for next speaking step. ) In-class activities Step 3. Speaking practice. Task 1: Giving advice. Task 2: Pair-work. (Purpose: By giving advice and making their own conversations, students put what they have just reviewed into practice. Also they can get ready for the listening practice.) Step 4. Listening practice. Students listen to a tape twice and then fill in the blanks. (Purpose: The listening material is made particularly to meet the standards of the Senior High School Entrance Examination. Improve students’ listening skills and also their exam strategies.) Step 5. Revision of Passage 3a. Task 1: General analysis of the genre of news. (Purpose: Showing 3 tips to help students to figure out news when reading.) Task 2: Match work. (Purpose: Students get the main structure of a piece of news.) Task 3: Find out the important fact according to the mind map. (Purpose: Students find out important information of “when”, “where”, “who” and “what”. Then they can make their own sentences using the information.) Task 4: Retell Para.2 according to the key words. (Purpose: By circling all the verbs in Para.2, students pay more attention to key words while reading news.) Task 5: Retell the ending of the story and also the views of the writer. (Purpose: Help students to analyze and write the tail of the news.) Task 6: Overall reading. (Purpose: By analyzing the passage according to the head, body, and tail, students will have a better understanding of news. This will help students with their further reading and writing of news.) Task 7: Exercise of cloze. (Purpose: Get students ready for the Senior High School Entrance Examination.) Step 6. Teacher’s words. Have a discussion. (Purpose: Help students get moral education and arouse their social awareness.) Step 7. Revision of Passage 2b. Task 1: Introduction to the passage. (Paragraph 1) (Purpose: Finding out information about when”, “where”, “who” and “what” will be a helpful strategy for students’ reading.) Task 2: Retell of Para.1 according to the pictures. (Purpose: Students can retell according to the sequences of events.) Task 3: What happened to Aron? (Fill in the mind map.) Task 4: Have a discussion. (What can we learn from Aron?)
