Unit 2 She was thinking about her cat. 1. Read the start of Alice’s Adventures in Wonderland, match the main idea of each paragraph. Alice was sitting with her sister by the river and her sister was reading a book. Alice had nothing to do. Once or twice she looked into her sister’s book. “And what is a book for,” thought Alice, “without pictures or conversations?” Suddenly a white rabbit with pink eyes ran by. There was nothing strange about that. She heard the rabbit say, “Oh, dear! Oh dear! I’ll be late!” and she did not think it was strange. Then the rabbit took a watch out of its pocket and looked at it. A rabbit with a pocket and a watch? Alice got up and ran across the field after it. She saw it go down a large rabbit hole in the ground. Then Alice went down after it, but never thought about how she was going to get out again. She found that she was falling down a very, very deep hole. It was too dark for her to see anything. She was falling for a long time. While she was falling, she was thinking about her cat, Dinah. Suddenly she landed on some dry leaves. Para.1 a. Alice fell down a very deep hole. Para.2 b. Alice had nothing to do by the river. Para.3 c. Alice saw a strange rabbit. 2. Number the events in the order. a) Alice landed on some dry leaves. b) Alice was sitting by the river with her sister. c) Alice fell down a hole. d) A rabbit ran by. e) Alice ran across the field after the rabbit. 3. Read and answer the questions. ①Was Alice interested in her sister’s book? How do you know? ②What did Alice hear? ③Did Alice feel afraid when she went down the rabbit hole? How do you know? ④What was the hole like? CHAPTER ONE Falling Through the Rabbit Hole Alice was beginning to get very tired of sitting by her sister on the bank, and of having nothing to do; once or twice she had looked into the book her sister was reading, but it had no pictures or conversations in it, “and what is the use of the book,” thought Alice, “without pictures and conversations?” So she was considering in her own mind whether the pleasure of making a daisy-chain(雏菊花环) would be worth the trouble of getting up and picking the daisies, when suddenly a white rabbit with pink eyes ran close by her. There was nothing so very remarkable in that; nor did Alice think it so very much out of the way to hear the Rabbit say to itself “oh dear! Oh dear! I shall be late!” but when the rabbit actually took a watch out of its waistcoat-pocket, and looked at it, and then hurried on, Alice started to her feet, for it flashed across her mind that she had never before seen a rabbit with either a waistcoat-pocket, or a watch to take out of it, and burning with curiosity, she ran across the field after it, and fortunately was just in time to see it pop down a large rabbit- hole under the bush. The rabbit-hole went straight on like a tunnel for some way, and then dipped suddenly down, so suddenly that Alice had not a moment to think about stopping herself before s ... ...
