Unit 6 Exploring Chinatown The First Period 【教学目标】 1.知识目标 (1)重点单词: explore, chorus, strait, greet, bay, seaweed, seagull, howl, tram, melon, firework, sideway, shaver, rooster, valley, slavery, politician, friction. (2)重点短语: pick out, every so often, be alive with, seek one’s fortune. Step 2 Presentation Show the picture of "explore, chorus, strait, greet, bay, seaweed, seagull, howl, tram, melon, firework, sideway, shaver, rooster, valley, slavery, politician, friction" and ask students to describe them. Then write down the words on the board. Step 3 Reading First reading: ask students to read the passage "Danny’s Visit to Chinatown" and find out the words that they don't know. Then teacher explains the words that they don't know. Second reading: ask students to listen to the tape and read it again and think about the following questions: (1)What is Chinatown? (2)Do you know anything about it? Then ask students to answer the questions. Third reading: read the passage again and finish exercises in section 2. Step 4 Non-stop talk 1.Ask students to study the passage in groups. 2.Let's talk: Going on a vacation. 3.Read the following dialogue between Jenny and Jim, as they meet on their way to school. Jenny: Hi, Jim. I heard you and Tom were going away for your summer vacation. Jim: Yes, Jenny. We plan to go somewhere in early August. Jenny: That's great.
