It has traveled more than 400 million kilometers by January 3 and is set to enter a Mars orbit next month, according to the China National Space Administration. By 6 am Sunday, the spacecraft had flown for 163 days on an Earth-Mars transfer trajectory(轨道)and was about 8.3 million km from the red planet. It was in good condition. If everything goes well, the probe that is made up of two major parts, an orbiter and a lander, will travel more than 470 million km in February, when it will be 193 million km from Earth. Tianwen-1 has three goals-orbiting Mars for observing everything on it, landing on the planet's surface and deploy a rover to carry out scientific operations. If it achieves these three goals, it will be the world’s first Mars expedition to reach these goals with one probe. Tianwen-1 is the world's 46th Mars exploration (探索) mission since October 1960, when the former Soviet Union sent the world's first Mars-bound spaceship. Only 17 of those missions were successful.
