Strings, ribbons, feathers. If you were the presenter, what questions would you like to ask the producers? What is the dreamcatcher used for? How much have you earned? How do you make the dreamcatcher? ... While-listening activities Listen to the recording, and take down the questions the presenter asked. Dreamcatchers? What are they? How do you make them? Where do you make them? How do you sell your dreamcatchers? Listen to the recording again and complete the table. Post-listening activities Make use of the information in the table above, and introduce Maka and Zebi’s business of dreamcatchers. Speaking activities Think of an ideal product to promote Chinese culture, and work out a business plan for designing and selling it. Share your ideas with your partner. Give a presentation on the cultural product. Our group would like to create a calendar with Chinese characters on it. On each page of the calendar will be a Chinese character closely related to the corresponding date. For example, on October 1st, Chinese National Day, the simplified and traditional version of the character 国 will be introduced. Beside the character will be a QR code. By scanning it, people can hear the stories behind the characters in the language of both Chinese and English. Since it’s a big project, it may take us about half a year to select the characters and complete the design. We can finish most of the work on our own computers, but probably we have to turn to a factory for production. We will sell it online and where foreigners gather. We do believe it will sell well, because it isn’t only useful but also likely to attract those interested in Chinese culture. Interaction Which of your classmates’ products appeal to you most? Why? Make comments on your peers’ product plans.
