There are many different cultures in the world, all with different food, clothes, housing, etc. Let’s take a deeper look at food. Some cultures might find one type of food to have an unusual or unpleasant taste, while other cultures might find it to be a tasty specialty. I traveled to Germany last summer vacation. In Southern Germany, one common dish is steamed (蒸制的) dumplings with a salty crust (外壳) served with either vanilla sauce (香草酱) or potato soup. The dumpling is made of sweet dough (面团), while the crust is crispy (脆的) and salty. The mixture of sweet vanilla and crispy, salty crust sounds strange to most Americans, but it tastes delicious. I also tasted Chinese food. Jiaozi is the one I like best. It is a kind of dumplings either steamed or boiled. People say that it was Zhang Zhongjing, an ancient Chinese doctor, who invented it.
