Leading-in Teachers' activities: using courseware to present the picture of Li River at the bottom of the text and asking students: Look at the picture. What place do you think it might be? Do you think it is beautiful?How do you describe the picture? Did you know the Li River had been once polluted? Objective: to activate students' background knowledge about Li River and to pave the way for students' understanding of the text. While-class Student Activities: (1) skim through the questions in activity 2, then read the text to find out the key information. The teacher should ask the students to answer the questions in activity 2 with complete sentences. 1 What were some of the negative effects on the Li River as a result of the growth in tourism Answer: Many of the tourists frequently threw garbage into the river.
