How to enable the students to understand the significance of difficulties. Teaching Methods Task-based Language Teaching Communicative Language Teaching Situational Teaching Approach Teaching Aids Blackboard, learning guide and multimedia Teaching Procedures Estimated Time 40mins Procedures Activities Purposes Step 1 Lead - in (3mins) The students are supposed to appreciate a caricature. Then the teacher asks them a question to lead in the topic. Q: What’s your understanding of that caricature To arouse students' interest by appreciating a caricature and lead in the topic. Step 2 Reading for structure (5mins) The teacher offers an effective reading strategy skimming. The teacher guides the students to read the passage quickly and underline the topic sentence of the text. To get students to find the main idea of the passage by using the reading strategy —skimming. Step 3 Reading for content (22mins) The teacher offers students another reading strategies on how to scan an article for details. Students scan the passage and complete the form. (Individual work) The teacher lets the students read the passage once again and complete the timeline of Reeve’s life. The teacher shows the route of Reeve’s life and guide students to analyse the change of his feelings based on the text. (Group work) To make students learn to use reading strategy scanning to find details. To develop students’ cooperative skills. To guide students to master how to draw a mind map. Step4 Reading for Appreciation (8mins) Appreciate and discuss: Let the students analyse the sentence“He will always be remembered as a superhero — in more ways than one.” Let students work in small groups and discuss : What have you learnt from Reeve’s experience (Group work) To develop students’ critical thinking. To motivate students to learn some valuable qualities from national heroes. To cultivate students’ logical,critical and creative thinking.
