They were having a tea party in the garden. 过去进行时的句式 一般过去时与过去进行时的区别 1. 一般过去时表示过去的时间里发生的动作，所表示的动作往往已经完成，谓语动词用动词的过去式；过去进行时强调在过去某时刻或某时段正在进行或持续的动作, 由was / were +动词现在分词构成。 e.g. Mum bought me a watch last Sunday. Mr Wang and his wife were in America last month. Linda and her sister were cleaning their room at 9:00 am yesterday.
