It talks about the great scientist Yuan Longping, mainly about his identity, education, research, achievements, qualities and his dreams. By reading the passage, students could have a deeper understanding of Dr Yuan’s life choices and it is helpful to for students to follow the role model to shoulder the responsibility to society and know more about agriculture. Analysis of students As senior students, they have some background information about agriculture and Dr.Yuan but their abilities of analyzing the text and extracting information efficiently still need improving. At present, students’ values and outlook on life is being formed so learning this passage is quite educational and helpful. Learning objectives Know how Yuan Longping became a pioneer for all people through learning basic information about him; Analyze why Yuan is called a pioneer for all people and conclude his personalities with critically thinking; Learn the spirits of Yuan and and have a better understanding of China’s agricultural development. Key and difficult points Learn to summarize personalities from details; Learn the spirits of Yuan and have a better understanding of China’s agricultural development. Teaching methods Task-based approach and cooperative learning method Teaching aids Multimedia, textbook and blackboard Teaching process Step1: Leading in Show pictures of delicious food (including a bowl of rice).
