Obtain specific information from the news reports in Exercise 6 and Around the world, and understand the new words, such as pilot, crew, passenger, emergency, etc. (Understanding) 2. Summarize how to write a news report about an accident, especially what information should be mentioned. (Applying) 3. Write a news report about a given accident by using the target language of this module with the help of the checklist. (Creating) 教学内容 教学重点: 1. Obtain specific information from the news reports in Exercise 6 and Around the world, and understand the new words, such as pilot, crew, passenger, emergency, etc. (Understanding) 2. Summarize how to write a news report about an accident, especially what information should be mentioned. (Applying) 教学难点: 3. Write a news report about a given accident by using the target language of this module with the help of the checklist. (Creating) 教学过程 Activity 1 Brainstorm Students think about what accidents may happen in daily life. e.g. traffic accidents, sports accidents, bitten by animals, etc. 【设计意图】This activity is aimed to activate what students have learnt in unit 1 and unit 2, and lead them into the topic naturally. Activity 2 Look and say Students see a photo of an accident and say what they see in the photo. (a plane and many people on the river) And students see another photo and understand the new words “pilot”, “crew”, “passenger” with the help of the image. 【设计意图】This activity is aimed to arouse students’ interest in this accident. Activity 3 Read and answer Students read the news report in Around the world and answer four questions. 1. When and where did the accident happen (It happened only three minutes after the plane took off in New York.) 2. Why did the accident happen (The plane was hit by a large number of birds.) 3. How did the plane avoid a terrible disaster (The pilot made a quick decision. He and the crew kept calm and he carefully made an emergency landing on the Hudson River. ) 4. What happened after the accident (All the passengers left the plane safely.) Then students guess the meaning of “emergency”. They can choose from the given options. a. sudden, serious and dangerous b. slow, usual and safe 【设计意图】This activity is aimed to help students get the specific information about this accident and guess the meaning of the new word from the context. Activity 4 Read and think Students read the news report again and answer two questions. 1. What do you think of the pilot Why (I think he is brave/kind/clever/experienced/responsible…He stayed calm and made a quick decision. He saved all the passengers.) 2. Did the writer talk about his feelings or opinions (No, he didn’t.) After answering the second question, students will be asked to think about why the writer didn’t talk abo ... ...
