Book 1: Unit 5 Reading Nelson Mandela — a modern hero Teaching Design 教材分析: The topic of this unit is Nelson Mandela — a modern hero, so all the languages and activities are designed to serve it. The reading passage is about a poor black worker Elias getting help from Mandela and supporting him. According to the reading passage, students can learn what Mandela did for black people and why he did so. Also from this part, students can improve their reading skills, such as skimming to get the main idea, scanning to get some important details, discussing to have a further understanding of the text, and interviewing to retell the text in their own words. 学情分析: The students have already known some information about Nelson Mandela and black people’s situation at that time. And they have also had some reading skills. However, some students don’t know how to learn efficiently. And they also feel it difficult to express what they think in English. So they need more practice to improve their reading and speaking ability. 课堂设计理念: 《普通高中英语新课程标准》中提出,高中英语教学要鼓励学生通过积极尝试,自我探究,自我发现和主动实践等方式,形成具有高中生特点的英语学习的过程与方法。所以本课的设计通过不同形式的活动和练习,充分利用课本资源,进行适当的整合,引导学生积极主动的参与有层次,有梯度的学习活动,使学生逐步掌握本课的语言功能,完成语言应用的任务,从而发展探究知识和获取信息的能力。 Teaching Aims: 1. Knowledge aims: After the class, the students will be able to 1) Learn something about Nelson Mandela. 2) Learn some words and expressions, i.e. guidance, fee, fare, passbook, vote, attack, violence, equal, blow up, achieve one’s dream 2. Ability aims: After the class, the students will be able to 1) Improve reading ability by skimming to get the main idea, scanning to get some important details, discussing to have a further understanding of the text, and interviewing to retell the text in their own words. 2) Work individually and work in pairs. 3. Emotional aims: After the class, the students will be able to 1) Understand what Mandela did for black people and why he did so. 2) Learn some good qualities from Nelson Mandela — a modern hero. Teaching Important Points: 1. Help the students get some basic information and some important details. 2. Help the students have a further understanding of the text. 3. Enable the students to use what they have learnt by having an interview in their own words.
