Learning objectives By the end of the lesson, students will be able to: 1. tell something about Impressionism, including its features, two great painters, masterpieces and influence; 2. analyse the multiple meanings of the title; 3. introduce the Musée d’Orsay as a tour guide. II. Key competence focus 1. Tell something about Impressionism. 2. Understanding the implied meanings of the title. III. Predicted area of difficulty Introduce the Musée d’Orsay as a tour guide. IV. Teaching procedures Step 1 Lead-in 1. T asks students to guess what the following poem is about. 远看山有色,近听水无声。 春去花还在,人来鸟不惊。 ———王维(唐) 2. T asks students to explain the following sentence. Painting is silent poetry, andpoetry is painting that speaks. —Simonides ofCeos 3. T asks students about some famous painters and popular types of painting. Then T shows four paintings and asks students to tell which type they belong to. Sample answers: Picture 1 is a portrait painting because the painting is of a person’s head and shoulders. Picture 2 is a still life painting because the painting is of flowers that have been arranged in a vase. Picture 3 is a real-life painting because the painter painted real people in a real situation; they are dancing and socializing. Have you visited any art museum Is it a rewarding experience Why do you think people visit art museums 2. Today we’ll read a travel journal about a visit to an art museum. What will it talk about according to the title and the picture 【设计意图:从学生的生活体验入手,谈论参观艺术博物馆的意义,从而进入文本的主题语 境———a travel journal ,让学生根据图片和标题来预测文本内容 , 引领学生关注中心词 “impression ”,培养学生预测性思维能力。】 Step 3 While-reading 1. T asks Ss to read the travel journal and write down the main idea of each part in the chart below. Before showing the complete sample answers, T may ask them to fill in the blanks. While checking answers, T shows some pictures or gives a brief introduction to help Ss have a basic understanding of the museum, Impressionist painters and Impressionism.
