Enjoy a short video Background Knowledge The Time Machine The film, The Time Machine was adapted from a novel of the same name, written by H. G. Wells. Look at the portrait. Who is he H.G. Wells (1866-1946) is — along with Jules Verne — most often credited with being the inventor of the science fiction genre. He was born in Kent, England. Well’s contribution was the idea that all of the details in the story should be as closely grounded in reality as possible, with the exception of one element which was fantastical. By having everything else grounded in reality, audiences are more willing to accept the fantastical element as true. Look at the pictures.
