The road mainly passed through Yunnan, Sichuan and Tibet, where the terrain is very dangerous—with high mountains, steep valleys and thick forests. At first, the road was used to transport tea from Yunnan and Sichuan to Tibet, and horses and Tibetan medicine were brought back in return. Later, it became a busy trade road for all kinds of goods. Besides trade, the Ancient Tea Horse Road was also a bridge for cultural exchange. Many ethnic groups along the road shared their customs, languages and art with each other. Today, most parts of the old road are no longer used for trade, but it has become a popular tourist attraction. People come here to experience the ancient culture and enjoy the beautiful natural scenery. Some local people also make a living by providing homestay and travel services for visitors. ( ) 1.
